ComStar Productions traces its roots back to 1997, when founders Jason C. Kubin and Brian “Keith” Rich launched the original venture under the name ComStar Programming. Their first major project was developing a companion floppy disk for the classic FASA Corporation RPG game, BattleTech—a pioneering effort that set the tone for the company’s future in creative tech.

In 1998, following Keith Rich’s departure, Jason relocated the company to Harrisonburg, Virginia, rebranding it as ComStar Computers & Consulting. The focus shifted toward building custom PCs and offering IT consulting services across the region. During this time, ComStar moved between a few locations in Virginia, but ultimately returned and settled once again in Harrisonburg, where its roots had truly taken hold.

By 2003, the company evolved into ComStar Enterprise, which formally established ComStar Productions—a bold return to its programming origins. From there, the company expanded its focus to include multimedia development, cross-platform software, and mobile apps.

Most recently, in June 2025, ComStar made a landmark leap by launching the ComStar App Store—a fully cross-platform, 100% free marketplace for apps, driven by a mission of open access, independence, and creative freedom.

From its humble beginnings in code and circuit boards to an expansive suite of software tools and entertainment apps, ComStar Productions remains a proudly independent developer and creative studio—built by dreamers, for dreamers.
